The risk of relying on AI for your marketing

The danger comes when businesses rely on AI to think for them. In marketing, understanding people is just as important as getting the words on the page.

AI is making it easier than ever to create marketing content. In just a few seconds, you can generate a blog post or come up with ideas for your next social media campaign, but just because you can produce content quickly doesn't mean it's going to do the job.

The danger comes when businesses rely on AI to think for them. In marketing, understanding people is just as important as getting the words on the page.

When your marketing starts to sound the same

AI can generate content that reads well at first glance, but take a closer look and you might find it lacks anything that makes your business stand out. Your website could explain exactly what you offer without giving potential customers a compelling reason to choose you. Your social media posts might sound professional, yet feel so generic that people scroll straight past them.

Your business has its own experience and personality. These are things that help customers connect with you, and they're difficult to communicate if you're relying on AI to do all the work.

The importance of the human eye

Another risk is that AI-generated content can miss the point entirely. Imagine a customer has contacted your business with a specific concern; AI might help you draft a response, but without a person reviewing it, the reply could come across as impersonal or fail to address what the customer actually needs.

The same applies to your wider marketing. AI might suggest a topic that looks relevant, but someone with a proper understanding of your business could recognise that it isn't what your audience needs to hear right now.

There's also the risk of inaccurate information making its way into your content. AI can produce convincing answers that aren't always correct, which is why human checks are so important before anything goes live.

Let AI support your marketing, not lead it

We're not suggesting you should avoid AI altogether. It can be a useful starting point when you need inspiration or want to explore a different approach to a piece of content. The key is ensuring your own knowledge and judgement remain at the centre of your marketing. Review what AI produces and ask yourself whether it reflects your business and gives your audience a genuine reason to engage.

At Newedge, we understand that effective marketing starts with getting to know your business and the people you want to reach. AI can help with the process, but it can't replace that understanding.

Ultimately, it's not about how much content you can produce. It's about whether that content is doing anything worthwhile for your business.
