Mike Willis launched the Business Club in 2007 with a desire to create a traditional networking event that wasn’t afraid to remain true to its roots in an increasingly digital age. It was built to help local companies come together and achieve more business.

Mike’s passion for bringing local business owners together has resulted in a business of his own that now has over 100 members and is estimated to have generated over two million pounds worth of business both locally and nationally.

When we met Mike, it was clear that he was in desperate need of a fresh, new and modern web presence to match his ambitions for growth.

A new website for a multi award winner

The Business Club is the only company to have won the top gong at the Northamptonshire Business Awards two years in a row and it was crucial that the new website mirrored the goodwill and respect Mike’s business has generated over the last ten years.

After consulting with Mike, we decided to opt for a website design built on the Silverstripe content management system platform. This was because it had two key responsibilities that needed covering…

1: Mobile-ready

If someone reaches your business website, the chances are they’ll do so on their smartphone. And with Northamptonshire business owners pressed for time, Mike and the team at New Edge knew that most of his existing and prospective members would be doing just that.

We therefore set about creating a fully-responsive website that would work perfectly on any sized screen. No content is lost when switching to a smartphone and navigation has been made finger-pressing simple.

2: Online booking

It was possible to book a space at one of Mike’s events via his old website, but people were directed to a third-party service to do so. Clearly, this took them out of the Business Club ‘world’, which didn’t make sense from a brand engagement perspective.

We resolved this by creating a bespoke multi club, multi-site event booking module. As a result, Mike’s team can now add new events as they’re announced and allow people to book and pay for them without ever leaving the new website.

Encouraging members to engage

The new online event booking system encourage members to book without having to call, making it a more convenient experience for both the Business Club and the members themselves. Add to that a members’ only area in which they can manage their own bookings and access exclusive documentation, and Mike’s dream of combining traditional networking with a brilliant online community has been realised.

A consistent content marketing strategy that includes blogging and daily social media management is also being delivered by the New Edge team, thus continuing to establish Mike’s business as a key thought leader within the Northamptonshire business scene.
